When Life Feels Messy, Faith Can Feel Distant
Let’s be real for a second: life can get messy. One week you’re feeling on fire for God, and the next you’re drained, distracted, and wondering how long it’s been since you really spent time with Him.
If that sounds like you, you’re not alone. As I write this I just finished moving into my dream apartment and I haven’t spent quality time with the Lord in around 2 weeks; that is a long time for me and I feel out of sorts.
As women, we carry so much—work, kids, relationships, emotions. And in the chaos, our faith routines often take the hit.
But here’s the truth: faith consistency doesn’t mean perfection. It means returning to Jesus, again and again, even when life is messy.

Why Consistency Matters—But Grace Matters More
We hear a lot about “quiet time” and “spiritual routines,” but let’s be clear: God is not keeping score. He’s not angry if you missed a day. He’s inviting you to return—to abide. He is so faithful in that He waits on us and gives us Grace.
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” — Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIV)
Every day is a fresh start.
So if you’ve been inconsistent, if your prayer life feels dry, if the Word hasn’t been opened in weeks—grace is still yours.
What’s Really Getting in the Way?
Before we fix the routine, we need to name the real roadblocks. Be honest:
Is it busyness?
Is it emotional exhaustion?
Is it guilt or shame for drifting away?
Is it just a life change like I just experienced
Sometimes, it’s not just your schedule—it’s your spirit that’s tired.
Here are 4 common reasons we lose consistency:
Guilt – “I’ve missed too many days. God must be disappointed in me.”
Distraction – We fill every margin with phones, TV, or people.
Overwhelm – We think devotion time has to be long or perfect to matter.
Confused - Too many people telling you how your time with God should look.
But God isn’t looking for your performance—He wants your presence.

3 Ways to Stay Spiritually Consistent in Hard Times
1. Anchor Your Day in a Tiny Habit
Small habits are powerful. A 5-minute choice can shift your entire mindset.
Try:
Playing worship music first thing in the morning
Reading one scripture before touching your phone. Get our Fav Bible Set Here
Whispering a one-line prayer while getting dressed
“Remain in me, as I also remain in you.” — John 15:4a (NIV)
The goal is connection, not completion.
2. Make Your Devotional Visible and Simple
Out of sight = out of mind.
Keep your Bible or devotional on your nightstand or kitchen counter
Use sticky notes with scriptures in places you visit often (mirror, car, laptop)
Choose simple resources like the Daughters of the King devotional, which only takes a few minutes a day but reminds you who you are in Christ
💡 Pro tip: If it’s hard to start, use a guided devotional that speaks directly to your season. No overthinking, just show up and read.
3. Change the Way You Think About Devotion Time
You don’t have to:
Wake up at 5AM
Journal pages of notes
Read a whole chapter of the Bible
Let’s redefine success:
Did I invite God into my day?
Did I make one small choice to connect with Him?
Did I remember that I’m loved?
If you answered yes to even one of those… girl, you’re doing better than you think.
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” — James 4:8a (ESV)
