How to Reconnect with God When You Feel Broken and Unworthy

How to Reconnect with God When You Feel Broken and Unworthy

There are moments in life that leave a permanent mark on our souls. For me, that moment happened in April 2020. I was walking through my second divorce — broken, questioning everything, and feeling like a failure. It felt like life had knocked the wind out of me, and I didn’t know how to get back up.

In the middle of that pain, God met me in His Word.

I was reading Galatians 1:15, and the words jumped off the page like they were written just for me:

“But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by His marvelous grace.”

I read it again.

And again.

Tears streamed down my face as I whispered, “God… You chose me?”

That one scripture changed everything.

A Divine Reminder in a Dark Season

When life breaks your heart, it’s easy to believe you’ve lost your worth. You start to feel discarded, unseen, and unloved. I was there — going through the motions, trying to be strong for everyone around me, but inside, I was unraveling.

Galatians 1:15 reminded me of something I had forgotten: I was created by God and chosen on purpose. Not because I had it all together. Not because I was perfect. But because His grace had already written my name into His story long before I ever knew pain.

And if God chose me — with all my flaws, failures, and heartbreak — then I knew there had to be more women out there who needed to hear this too.

The Beginning of Choose Him

That season of brokenness was the beginning of something beautiful. Out of that valley came the vision for the Choose Him devotional. I didn’t want to just create a journal filled with scriptures — I wanted to create something that would walk with women through real-life pain and help them reconnect with God in the middle of their mess.

Choose Him was born out of my own struggle to show up for God daily and realize who I was in Him — not because I didn’t love Him, but because life felt too heavy. Too loud. Too busy. I knew what it felt like to want to pray but be too tired. To crave time in God’s Word but not know where to start. To feel unworthy of closeness with God because of past mistakes.

This devotional was my way of saying, “You are not alone and there are practical, real life ways to choose Jesus and make the Better choice.”

The Daily Struggle to Choose God

Many women I’ve met since launching Choose Him have told me the same thing: “I love God, but I’m struggling to stay consistent.” And I get it — truly. Life doesn’t slow down. Responsibilities pile up. And before we know it, our spiritual life becomes reactive instead of intentional.

We squeeze God in when we can, but deep down, we long for more. We want that closeness with Him. We want peace. We want purpose. We want to wake up each day feeling grounded and loved.

That’s what Choose Him was created for.

It’s not just a devotional — it’s a mindset shift. It’s a daily decision to pursue God even when things aren’t perfect. It’s learning how to invite Jesus into our everyday lives — into our parenting, our work, our friendships, our grief, and even our mundane routines of life.

You Were Never Meant to Do Life Alone

If you’ve ever felt like God is far away, I want you to know something: He never left. You were created with intention, knit together by a loving Father who sees every detail of your life.

Ephesians 2:10 says,

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.”

That verse confirms what Galatians 1:15 began in me — we were created with a divine purpose. And not only were we created, but we were called to live out our days in relationship with Him. That starts with choosing Him, again and again.

Not just once at the altar. Not just on Sundays. But daily.

Choose HIM Was Made to Heal

Choose Him isn’t just for women in crisis. It’s for any woman who wants to build her life on something solid. Maybe you’ve found yourself spiritually dry — praying, but not really feeling connected. Maybe you’ve been too overwhelmed by life to spend time with God consistently. Or maybe you’ve been stuck in guilt and shame over the past.

This devotional gently walks you back into God’s presence. It gives you short, meaningful entries you can digest daily — paired with scripture, reflection questions, and action steps to help you make your faith more than just a feeling. It turns spiritual intentions into spiritual habits.

And slowly, one day at a time, your faith begins to flourish again.

Chosen, Loved, and Sent

Jesus said in John 15:16, “You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit.”

That verse is a game-changer. It reminds us that God isn’t waiting for us to get ourselves together before He uses us. He already chose us — flaws, fears, and all.

And when we choose Him in return, we step into the fullness of who we were always meant to be.
