Why do I Struggle to Stay Consistent with God

Why do I Struggle to Stay Consistent with God

Introduction

Have you ever felt that deep desire to stay close to God but find yourself struggling to be consistent? One day, you’re on fire—praying, reading your Bible, feeling His presence.

Then life happens. Work, family, responsibilities, and distractions creep in, and before you know it, days or even weeks have passed without spending intentional time with Him.

You’re not alone in this struggle; I’ve been there. Also many believers wrestle with staying consistent in their faith. But here’s the good news: consistency with God isn’t something you’re born with—it’s something you build.

I have been a Christian for all of my adult and I have only been consistent in my Daily devotion time for the past 2 years. Just like any relationship, your connection with Him grows stronger through daily commitment, not perfection.

So, how do you overcome inconsistency and develop a lasting habit of seeking Him? Let’s start with what the Bible says about this.

The Biblical Truth

In Matthew 6:33, Jesus tells us, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” This verse reminds us that our relationship with God should be our first priority, not something we fit in when we have time, we have to be intentional. When we make Him the center of our lives, everything else falls into place.

Spiritual growth doesn’t happen in one big moment—it happens daily. Just like we eat food every day to nourish our bodies, we must also feed our spirits daily to stay strong in our faith.

The key is not perfection but persistence. Even on the days when you don’t feel like it, choosing to spend time with God—even for just a few minutes—can deepen your relationship with Him over time. This is exactly what happened to me; my relationship with Him gets stronger everyday.

Practical Steps to Stay Consistent

Knowing that consistency is built, not born, here are a few practical ways to make time with God a daily habit:

1. Make Time for God First

Life is busy, but we make time for what truly matters. Even if it’s just five minutes in the morning, take that time to pray, do a quick devo from a Bible app, read a Bible verse, or sit in silence before Him. The more you prioritize Him, the easier it becomes to make room for Him in your day.

2. Find a Method That Works for You

Not everyone connects with God the same way. Some people love journaling, while others connect through worship, Bible study, or listening to sermons on YouTube. If reading the Bible feels overwhelming, start with a short devotional. The Choose Him devotional takes 15 minutes a day for 6 days a week. Experiment and find what helps you stay engaged and excited about spending time with God. AND Read your Bible; This is the new Spiral Bible like.

3. Stay Accountable

Accountability makes a huge difference when building a habit. Join a Bible study group, connect with a friend, use a Bible app or even use a devotional guide to keep you on track. When you have someone encouraging you, it’s easier to stay consistent, even on the hard days.

Remember, small steps lead to transformation. You don’t have to spend hours in prayer to be close to God—faithfulness in the little moments matters. The more you show up for Him, the more you’ll see His presence in your life.
